DIY and Pro Help With Your Home Projects
Whether your moving in, moving out, or just looking for a change - painting or staining your house is one the fastest and cheapest way to increase the home's appeal.
Staining
Staining is great if you have new higher grade trim. You can not stain over paint but you can paint over stain. If you have stained trim, you are lucky. It is getting more and more rare because of the addition cost of the premium wood. If your stained trim in bad condition, it can easily be spruced up by use a furniture repair pencil or a rag with some fresh stain. I use this trick on a fix-n-flip house with scratches all over the trim and it looked great after just a few hours.
Painting
You can your wall, trim, ceiling, and even the floor inside your house. You can also paint the outside of your house. Painting wall goes quickly with a roller and pad for doing edges. Outside an house, most painters use a paint sprayer. This save huge amount of time since most of the time is spent getting the paint to the house and not spread around. Spraying the paint will push paint into small holes but will also let it lay on top of poorly prepared areas. You can easily go over a sprayed area with a 4 inch brush. This will break up any coatings under the paint and work into the surface for a better grip.
For either tasks, wear a respirator. Paint (even water based) gives off harmful vapors that build up in your liver/kidneys. This junk builds up in your body with little immediate effect. At some point your body becomes full and can not process out any more toxins. At this point, small amount of fumes will make you sick.
